Part Two – Reconnect

Men go abroad to wonder at the heights of mountains, at the huge waves of the sea, at the long courses of the rivers, at the vast compass of the ocean, at the circular motions of the stars, and they pass by themselves without wondering.

– Saint Augustine

Before you start to lead, you first need to learn about yourself. The emphasis, at least initially, should be on you. As you read, consider how the concepts in this section can be applied to yourself first, and later transferred to your team and your organization.

Key points from this section:

  • Effective organizational leaders first need to effectively lead themselves. This requires reconnecting with who they are.
  • Being physically healthy and spiritually connected creates a foundation for improvement and balance.
  • Learn about yourself by embracing stillness, quietude, and solitude, and by intentionally breaking your routine.
  • Mindful meditation is one of the most powerful (and easiest) methods to calm the mind and be more grounded in the present.
